‘You Beauty’ Braised Brussel Sprouts

August 10, 2017
RECIPE BELOW
.
Brussel sprout haters, LISTEN UP!
.
This dish was just given the thumbs up by a VERY picky eater
.
Last year, I was enlisted by a private client to create delicious, nutritious meals using "anything but green vegetables."
.
When I delved further (because WTF?!) I was told her seven-year-old son had a strong aversion to foods coloured green
.
Long story short, no matter what she tried over the years (even dying broccoli & celery purple!) he wouldn't swallow a morsel ‍♂️
.
Out of sheer desperation, she began looking for someone to help - enter ME!
.
So far, in the last 2 months, this little boy has embraced: zucchini, broccoli, celery & spinach.
.
Today, however, was the BEST DAY EVER because I just got the call to say he declared he LOVES CHEF SHINE'S BRUSSEL SPROUTS!
.

.
To say I'm thrilled would be an understatement - I feel as though I've won the lottery.
.
And because I'm on such a natural foods high, I jumped on insta to share this recipe with you, perfect as a side or snack on its own.
.
Obvs, you know how great Brussels are, but just in case:
.
They were initially bred from wild cabbage to improve digestion.
.
Full of vitamins, antioxidants & naturally-occurring sulphur, essential to the functioning of your cardiovascular, muscular & central nervous system.
.
Naturally anti-inflammatory thanks to their glucosinolate & Vitamin K
.
'You Beauty' Brussel Sprouts

You need:
.

.
You do:
.
‍Blitz seeds, yeast & salt in a processor. Pulverise & set aside.
.

.

How to Protect Yo’self From EMF

July 28, 2017
A few years ago I began delving deeper into different types of detrimental toxicities that exist within our environment because I'm a health nerd who wants to know anything & everything about how to guard & support the body naturally.
.
Aside from natural food & skincare, what do I know?
.
That EMFs encompass areas of energy surrounding all electronic devices. Their electromagnetic fields affect you (and me) because our bodies have their own electric & biochemical responses - our nervous system, digestion brain function, heart function, etc.
.
In the last 3 years, I've spoken to many experts who tell me EMFs can & do interact with the body in lots of not-so-great ways causing: headaches, anxiety, nausea, depression, fatigue, loss of libido as well as more serious health issues involving degeneration of cells leading to very serious dis-ease in the body
.
So what can you do about it?
.
Protect yo'self of course!
.
⚡️Eat a real food diet - LOTS of greens containing 'chlorophyll' which cleanses, detoxifies, purifies & supports the body. Take a look at my insta feed and You Tube tube channel for LOTS of great recipes.
.
⚡️Drink filtered water, health supportive tonics & elixirs as well as my fav: detoxifying teas! My current love, pictured above, is Pau d'Arco. My friend Mason from @superfeast tells me this herb has been used for years to relieve pain & treat conditions including yeast overgrowth, fungal infections & skin rashes. Aside from its detoxing power, Pau d'Arco tea can also support the body to heal chronic digestive disturbances.
.
⚡️Seek out products that block harmful laptop and phone radiation like my @defendershield mat pictured above. This mat also greatly reduces heat emitted from laptops, tablets & other electronic devices. Whenever I'm working, I make sure my Defender Pad is placed between my laptop and my body.
.
⚡️Invest in a crystal because they're not just beautiful specimens, they're health supportive too! Whether you're a little woo woo like me or not, there's no disputing the fact crystals like shungite can help support the body. Shungite is the only natural material containing 'fullerenes' which are SUPER high in antioxidants

Oat & Goji Berry Bliss Balls

July 14, 2017
Years ago, when I started making bliss balls, most people thought I was a little cray cray
.
"WHAT are THOSE?" they'd ask in disgust...
.
"Ummm, they're bliss balls" I'd say "...full of protein, fats, vitamins, minerals..." .
By the time I reached "minerals" I'd be met with: .
.
"They taste AMAZING, try one" I'd say...
.
And the rest is history Because anyone who popped one of these into their mouth instantly transformed from a hater into a lover ✨
.
And I've been bliss ballin' ever since
.
So it goes without saying how THRILLED I am now to see so many iterations of these bliss balls popping up on social media, in cafes, etc. The only issue I have are the astronomical prices (depending upon where you buy them from!) & freshness of ingredients.
.
Too many rancid nuts/seeds + rancid oils + lots of dried sulphered fruits can turn bliss balls into bliss-less bombs for your gut ☄️
.
This can lead to an overabundance of Omega 6 oils (the naughty oil you DON'T want a lot of in your system) + high amounts of sugar and suphites which can really mess with your body & cause hormonal imbalance, thyroid issues, weight gain, etc.
.
And so...with much love I share this very easy, balanced bliss ball recipe with you in time for the weekend, because: PERFECT time to get creative in your kitchen and work on your wellness
.
Goji Berry Bliss Balls
.
You need:
.
✨1 cup gluten free oats or oat flour
.
✨1 & 1/2 cups dried, sulphur/oil-free dates (I used @thedatelady)
.
✨1 cup salt-free, organic peanut butter
.
✨1 teaspoon organic vanilla extract
.
✨¼ teaspoons celtic sea salt
.
✨½ cup dried, unsulphered goji berries (I used @absolute_organic)
.
✨1 cup organic pumpkin seeds
.
✨Pinch sea salt
.
You do:
.
‍Grind oats into a rough flour in food processor. Add all ingredients & pulse to combine thoroughly. Mix is ready for rolling into balls when you press it together and it sticks.
.
‍Remove blade from food processor, grab small handfuls & mold into balls.
.
‍Place each ball on a lined tray - pop tray in fridge for up to one hour to set.
.
‍Store in an air-tight container in fridge for optimal shape and freshness OR store in freezer for up to one month.

Contents of My Carry On Luggage!

July 4, 2017
I'm headed to New York City today, filled with MAJOR excitement about the connection, collaboration & creative vibes I'll inevitably be exposed to while there
.
To ensure I arrive in tip top shape, here's what I'm taking on-board (from L to R):
.
✨ @matchaful - much nicer to your adrenal glands than caffeine. This brand of matcha tea is one of my favs.
.
✨ @maulirituals herbal 'surrender infusion' tea. Drinking this helps me feel calm & relaxed. It also has the most blissful aroma & delicious flavour.
.
✨ @naissancetrading organic spearmint essential oil. Aside from masking potentially funky smells mid-flight this oil helps keep me feel so refreshed.
.
✨ @naissancetrading organic 'cacay' oil. Packed with loads of goodness to keep skin happily nourished, it's my anti-aging, hydrating oil of choice.
.
✨ @gabbybernstein's 'Add More -ing to Your Life'. Opening any of my fav @hayhouseinc @hayhouseuk books gives me MAJOR butterflies - in 2018, I will publish my first Hay House book (and am working on book 2 right now!)
.
✨My homemade hydrating lip balm
.
✨A batch of my latest bliss balls to eat post-flight. I don't eat food while flying, the quality is poor + your gut is placed under so much extra stress in the air which makes optimal digestion near impossible - especially if you've got a compromised microbiome (leaky gut, IBS, etc).
.
✨NYC adventure cards from one of my BFFs who knows how much I exploring the New York!
.
✨A few of my fav crystals from Australia. Wherever I roam, I always take a little piece of Oz with me.
.
✨ @superfeast Astragalus Root. I mix this herbal tonic powder into my teas & water to supercharge my immune system. After years of use, I'm convinced it helps me to arrive at my destination with no jet lag & tonnes of energy!
.
✨ @jarrkombucha - to enjoy on the way to the airport. Like the gut, your immune system is also put under extra pressure when flying, so I always supercharge my gut with the most potent probiotics possible before boarding
.
✨A positive attitude! Since almost losing my life in 2014, I approach every day with a childlike sense of wonder - always determined to have the best day ever...and y'know what? I always do!

Anti-Inflammatory Juice for Pain and Inflammation

July 1, 2017
Hi there, how's your week been so far? If you've joined me recently, or reached out to say hello since my appearance with @trinnywoodall, I'm truly touched to know I've ignited a fire within you to find out more about your overall health
.
To celebrate, I've created a very powerful anti-inflammatory elixir - upon request from many of you experiencing joint pain and inflammation
.
Your body is an amazing machine, it only needs the smallest of encouragement to begin to soothe and heal naturally. .
So the goodness in this elixir includes:
.
Tart Cherries - contain the highest anti-inflammatory content of any food (). Cherry juice reduces inflammation in your blood vessels by up to 50%!
.
Pineapple - contains bromelain, a 'systemic oral enzyme' used to treat pain and problems like arthritis. Bromelain may also help your body fight cancer by dissolving 'fibrin' (cancer cells hide under fibrin to escape detection, cheeky little buggers!). When fibrin is dissolved, cancer cells become uncloaked and easily detected by your immune system
.
Spinach - attacks inflammation from every angle! Rich in carotenoids + vitamins C, E, and K, that protect your body from pro-inflammatory substances.
.
Parsley - great protection from rheumatoid arthritis thanks to its SUPER high chlorophyll and Vitamin C content.
.
Cacao - contains 'flavanols' which work fast to reduce inflammation and blood clotting.
.
Water - enough said!
.
☄️Turmeric - an amazing anti-inflammatory, best taken with pepper (see my latest Insta story re: why!)
.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil - the source of its distinctive aftertaste (called 'Oleocanthal') has similar effects as synthetic (more harsh) forms of pain relief like ibuprofen
.
ANTI INFLAMMATORY ELIXIR
.
1 cup tart cherries, pitted
.
1 cup fresh pinneapple, chopped
.
1 cup packed, organic spinach
.
1/2 cup packed fresh parsley
.
1 tablespoon cacao powder
.
1/2 tablespoon turmeric + teensy tiny pinch of black pepper
.
1/2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
.
200mls water
.

.
Combine all ingredients in the blender (in the order above) and blend on HIGH.
.
Strain through a nut milk bag and drink immediately to reap the benefits!

Revitalizing Matcha Tea Face Mask

June 18, 2017
Happy Sunday!
.
SUPER excited about this new recipe (below) I created for you - it's one you can eat AND wear!! Introducing... My Magical Matcha Tea Mask
.
Wait! Wha??
.
Yes, that's right my friend, I created this mask to FEED YO' FACE - literally!
.
Best worn for 10-15 minutes so the matcha has enough time to do its work which includes:
.
Removing harmful toxins and fighting free radicals that damage cells needed to protect your skin.
.
Decreasing excess oils that get trapped beneath the surface of your skin and become infested with bacteria - hello acne!
.
Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays that encourage premature aging and hyper-pigmentation.
.
Stimulating and rejuvenating your skin cells to keep you looking FRESH!
.
Aside from all that goodness, I've combined it with full fat yoghurt, RICH in probiotics () and lactic acid that gently removes the top layer of your skin - where all the dead skin cells hang out ewwwww!! Lactic acid will also help promote the growth of new skin cells - amazing what REAL food can do right?!
.
Quick note to my VEGAN brothers and sisters: replace the dairy yoghurt with coconut yoghurt, your skin will never know the difference...
.

And if any leftovers? Add a little maple syrup, maybe some dried coconut or just devour 'as is' - lick the bowl clean my friend and feel GOOD - inside and out! ‍♀️
.
Magical Matcha Tea Mask
.
You need:
.
✨1 teaspoon full fat dairy yoghurt (sub with coconut yoghurt if vegan)
.
✨1.5 teaspoons matcha tea powder - I recommend @matchaful because it's high quality stuff - no second rate matcha allowed!
.
You do:
.
✨Mix, stir, combine, then paint onto your face and leave for 10-15 minutes to let the magic happen!
.
✨Lick the bowl clean, then use a washcloth soaked in tepid water to remove.

Healthy Fried Rice – Paleo and Vegan

May 13, 2017
Ta daaaaaaaaaa ✨
.
I proudly present my yummy cauliflower fried 'rice' created two ways for a private cooking class I taught today to a health-conscious yummy mummy (who follows a paleo diet) and her beautiful daughter (who follows a vegan diet)
.
Instead of allowing their different food choices to come between them, these two wonderful women decided to enlist the services of a professional chef (moi ) to teach them several different dishes they can create and enjoy together whilst still honouring their individual food choices
.
It always makes me so proud to teach others to make healthier tweaks that are simple and so affordable. It's always so much fun to see my clients have fun with their food
.
The differences in these two dishes is quite minor, so if you're ever faced with a situation where you need to cater to both vegan and non vegan diners, this dish is a definite contender ✔️
.
Start by creating cauli rice by pulsing chopped cauliflower in a food processor until it becomes rice-like. Combine with frozen organic peas and small diced carrots (with skin on because: nutrients!).
.
Sauté in a little sesame oil (I recommend @absolute_organic cold pressed roasted sesame oil ) and once cooked, divide into two bowls.
.
For the vegan version: crumble organic tofu into a bowl and mix with a little turmeric powder, pepper, nutritional yeast and garlic powder. Combine well, then sauté in extra virgin olive oil. Add to one of the bowls of cauli fried rice, toss to combine and and top with sliced shallots
.
For the paleo version: shred and sauté organic chicken tenders and/or scramble a pasture-raised eggs in a little extra virgin olive oil. Add to the other bowl of cauli fried rice and toss to combine. Top with a sprinkle of sea salt and shredded shallots ✔️
.
Enjoy! And here's 'cheers' to accepting each other's individual choices!
