Aloe, aloe, aloe!

The perfect time to supercharge your cold and flu arsenal is right now! 😷💪🏻 It seems every second person I know has the flu at the moment, so here’s some natural foods info to help keep you in the happy, healthy zone…As always, nutrition is KEY! A diet rich in nutrients, micronutrients and antioxidants will support your body to fight bad bacteria and repair itself before a virus takes over. One of my favourite weapons of mass nutrition is 🌱Aloe Vera🌱which contains calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, copper, magnesium, niacin, folic acid and vitamins: A, C, E, B1, B2, B6 & B12. Additionally, aloe vera contains medicinal properties that boost the immune system and protect against oxidative stress. It also houses a compound called ‘acemannan’ that may inhibit the functioning and spread of certain viruses including influenza – how cool is that!?

I like to buy aloe vera as fresh as possible, as seen in my pic above. A few cuts to that big ol’ leaf, and out pops a long, transparent piece of aloe gel which I cut up and add into smoothies and sweet treats. If you can’t get your hands on a fresh aloe, try it in juice form, though be wary of the ingredients. Most aloe vera drinks sold at the grocery store have added sugar, colourings and flavourings that will only weaken your immune system further.

It’s best to order this kind of thing online – in Oz I like Nature’s Sunshine, in the UK I buy from Holland & Barrett and in New York I buy it fresh from Whole Foods or from Chinatown.

Wishing you well always, Danielle x
