THIS is something you want to make pronto! It’s a brilliant little sweet treat that will fool your palate into thinking it’s indulging in a decadently delicious chocolate mousse when really you’re feeding your body with nothing but health and wellness – winning! I first made this 3 years ago, thanks to a slightly embarrassing moment to be honest…
It was 6am when my beloved and I arrived home in Oz after a 24 hour flight from London. I was ravenous, so was he but it was WAY too early to go grocery shopping. Luckily, my lovely, incredibly thoughtful mother had left provisions…my eyes (and stomach) went immediately to the avocados, coconut milk and one of (my favourite chocolate substitutes), cacao powder.
Knowing full well avocados are jam-packed with healthy monounsaturated fats that provide incredibly beneficial anti-inflammatory benefits for our bodies, I quickly decided that an avocado breakfast was exactly what my beloved and I needed! Because that particular morning we were also craving something sweet, out came the blender and in went avocado, coconut milk, a little maple syrup, plus a few tablespoons of cacao powder to create the creamiest, chocolate-y-ist mousse we had ever eaten! For some reason, it has taken me a while to share this one, how rude! Well, here it is now, in all it’s chocolate-y glory – I hope you love every last guilt-free spoonful!
Avocado Chocolate Mousse
- 1 whole ripe avocado, (remove skin and seed)
- 1-2 Tablespoons cacao powder (you can also use carob or cocoa)
- 2 Tbs 100% organic maple syrup (you can also use raw honey or brown rice syrup)
- ¼ cup full fat coconut milk
- Combine all ingredients in food processor and blend until smooth
- Top with crushed nuts or fresh berries to serve
